Annex lease a waste of your tax dollars

You have to be kidding me. It is the same stuff (I'm polite and won't say the real word that deserves to be there), but different day when it comes to Mohave County and the excessive and unnecessary expenditures of county funds.

I don't know if you are aware, but the Mohave County Board of Supervisors' agenda item No. 65 for the next BOS meeting is to approve the lease agreement for the county's library annex on Gordon in Kingman to the tune of $1,920 per month.

As you must all know by now (because the library lease agreement has been discussed at coffee shops, over dinners and on the various internet blogs), the BOS tabled the $1,920 lease agreement approval at their November meeting and directed county officials go back to ORB Investments, of which two of its corporate owners are prominent county employees, and ask them to lower the lease agreement cost. It is obvious the county did not follow through or ORB Investments refused to renegotiate the $1,920 lease agreement.

However, through my investigation and research, I have learned the lease is an unnecessary and wasteful expenditure of county funds. There is more than adequate clean, dry and secure empty space available in some county-owned buildings, with plenty of parking space, that could house the library annex, in addition to a couple of other facilities the county is currently paying leases for.

I can now understand why many of the Mohave County residents are upset with the county regime and are calling for the ouster of the current elected officials.

Why waste county revenues on a lease and/or leases when the funds could be better utilized for other needed endeavors?

I recommend that every person upset with the county in regard to excessive and unnecessary expenditures, and especially the proposed lease agreement for the library annex, attend the upcoming BOS meeting in Kingman at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to voice their concerns.
